3 out of 5 stars Adequate - that's all   April 12, 2008
If you get this and decide to use the switch, save your tailcap. My switch failed after very little use (you don't have to use it, twisting the head still works). After about 3 years, one of the three LEDs has gone out - probably a bad solder joint since it can be made to go on by bending it a little.

All in all, it doesn't match the durability of the MagLite itself. I'm replacing it with a new MagLite and their own LED version. I still have the old incandcescent head parts, so it will go back to what it was and live on as a spare.

4 out of 5 stars works as advertised..   April 1, 2008
The photo shows 4 LEDS but it is actually 3.I am not having any problems with my LED or switch. Decent brightness..not focusable like they incandescent bulb. I also have terralux LEDs for my other mini mags and that is much better and brighter but for the price I paid for this nite ize updrage...worth 4 stars.

3 out of 5 stars saved batteries & bulbs, lasted 2+ years   January 7, 2008
I use my mini-mag constantly (PC repair, probing in dark cellars, etc.)Average (estimated) 1+ hour per day. I used to go through 2-3 set of batteries every month(24-36/year) and 2-3 bulbs per year. I bought the kit in 2006. The tail switch was unreliable, so I switched back to the standard tail piece, but the LEDs have lasted 2 years. I can get 6-8 weeks out of batteries (16 batteries/year). Only recently has the circuit started acting up: intermittently the LED's do not light up. Estimated use 800 - 1500 hours in 2 years. This is short of the 100,000 hour estimate but much better than the 25 hours/bulb I used to get.

I figure I've saved 4-6 bulbs and 40+ batteries, well worth the $7.00 original price.

5 out of 5 stars Mine works great.   December 31, 2007
Sorry to hear so many bad reviews on the product. The led lights & tailcap on mine have been working perfectly in the same maglite for over 3 years now. I got it pretty cheap too. It's much brighter than the standard maglite bulb. I also used a luxeon LED with this same model of tailcap in another maglite for over 3 years, & it still works fine. I upgraded all my maglites at about the same time. They're used very regularly & am having no problems.

1 out of 5 stars Destroyed 2 Mini-Mag's   December 16, 2007
Looked like a good way to get better battery life in my lights. Worked great at first, but one day, nothing. I changed out the batteries, and it was ok again. Next thing I know, it's not working again. I switched it to my second Mini-Mag, however, this time, time it was worse. It must have been draining or shorting out my batteries the entire time it was "off". The batteries exploded and destroyed the inside of the tube of my Mini-Mag. I had to hammer the batteries out and they were split.
When I looked back at the first one, same thing.
I spent the extra and bought a real LED Mini-Mag. Love it.
Just get the real thing and get on with life.
