Juts Ok October 3, 2008 Don't think its of a great quality as anticipated. You get what you pay for.... It's not super accurate either and looks fancy from the outside....
Lower quality than I expected September 20, 2008 I'm not sure what the story is with the 5-star reviews listed here. Maybe they got a different product. I tested this out five times in the same spot while out hiking (got it out of my pocket, opened it up and leveled it to find magnetic north, then closed it and put it back in my pocket) and it pointed four slightly different directions. My old Silva clear plastic compass, on the other hand, pointed the same exact direction each time. To its credit, this compass was apparently correct on the two occasions when it agreed with itself.
In a survival situation, this compass would be better than not having one, but that's all I can say for it.
Does not seem accurate. September 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't think the reading on this is accurate at all because it doesn't give the correct orientation of my house. I verified this another compass as well. Besides it looks really cheap. Of course for the price I cannot expect anything sophisticated, but it should at least point correctly to North. I would not trust this one to find directions if you need to do so on a hike, camp etc.
got moneys worth. July 30, 2008 shipped and received without any problems. it is nifty and has fun gadgets, but is what i paid for. inexpensive but does the job.
Excellent Compass! June 13, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is the same type of compass I trained with for orienteering during my high school ROTC days. When I decided I wanted a compass for an upcoming trip, I searched for comparable models at a couple of stores.
I found a number of chintzy plastic models that cost nearly twice as much at the big box store, and I found a nearly identical model for six times as much at the army surplus store.
Even without orienteering experience (I'm having to reteach myself) this is a sturdy, reliable compass that anyone can use.
