Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Excellent thread but lack of shock absorbsion   March 28, 2008

Used and abused alot in all sort of terrain and weather, so I have some good feel on what they are. The lacing system is superb, I like it even more than the one found on Salomon shoes. The foot really feels snug, almost as wrapped all around, like a nice stretchy thick sock. The thread is excellent, went bushwacking alot on buddy steep woodsy terrain, and it held its ground. The low sides of the shoe is reinforced with a rubbery protection patch, and that proved to be an excellent design choice, to protect the foot from branches and rocks. The mesh obviously doesn't appeal too much for those that don't like to feel wet when there is some moisture in the grass, but then, it does dry very fast. The upper part of the shoe around the anckle feels great. The pocket (pouch) on the upper outside tongue used to place the excess lacing is a great design concept so that the lacing system doesn't get hooked on a tree branch when running or walking. OK, all this is all very positive, but then why only three stars? it is the lack of shock absorbsion that really got me disappointed. After a run in the woods, my spine really felt the impact, and the body just didn't propel forward too much. When compared with a Salomon XA shoe, which has an excellent shock absorbion, I am just surprised on how flat and dead the area under the heel felt. So, if you want to used them for running, you might feel disappointed. But if it is for hiking and occasionally jogging, they are great. At the end, while I was disappointed when I first purchased and used the shoe since my purpose for them was to use them in an orienteering running competition, I then later appreciated them for a versatile multi-use outdoor shoe. ... and one final comment: while other shoes that I've used all day long in punishing conditions left blisters and athlete's foot fungus for lack of moisture dissipation, this shoe instead totally surprised me for leaving me a healthy foot at the end of the day.
