Product Description
Nab this Kershaw Chive Knife designed by Ken Onion. The Chive Clip Point Blade is made of 420 stainless steel with a hollow grind; Stock thickness is 0.090"; The index trigger serves both as an ambidextrous opening aid and as a finger guard when the knife is open. With a simple push on the index trigger, the closed knife quickly springs open using an open and locked position; The dual thumb studs serve only as the positive stop for the blade, as they are too small for use as one-hand openers; The notched thumb ramp of the blade provides a secure placement for the index finger or the thumb to rest on during use; Features Ken Onion's patent pending "Speed Safe" mechanism incorporating torsion bar technology for assisted opening. 4 out of 5 stars Great knife, weak safety   August 21, 2008
I got this knife a few years ago and carried it with me everywhere until the safety latch broke. The size is perfect to fit into the middle of your bra. It'd also fit in the tiny pockets of girl jeans, if you're feeling less vampy. I have medium hands for a girl and it fits my hands perfectly. I had no problem disengaging the saftey with my pinky while pushing the latch with my index finger, so this knife worked well for quick one-handed use. My version is the basic metal, so it doesn't have grippy sides, but the clip on the side gives you a surprisingly good grip, enough to perform small slow tasks. I wouldn't go hacking at anything with it, as the small handle won't give you enough control not to hurt yourself. It's also small and cheap enough that if you forget to remove it from your bag (or bra) before a concert or airplane trip, it's easy to hide someplace outside in sidewalk crevices or whatever so you can pick it up later (and cheap enough that it isn't a big deal if you lose it - just don't put it where kids will find it). For under $40, it's very well built and solidly constructed.

My one and only qualm is the safety latch. It's screwed in with a metal screw, but unlike the rest of the knife, the latch itself is made of plastic. After less than a year of use, the safety broke, and I could no longer carry it around with me without it popping open (ouch). As far as I can tell on the internet, there is no place that sells only the safety, and you'll need a specialized allen wrench to replace it anyway.
Since this knife is built small for carrying on your body for every day use, the weak safety is a huge flaw. I'm not sure if they make them, but if you can find a version with an all-metal safety, go with that one. Otherwise this is an awesome knife that is well designed and well constructed.
The blade and blade point can take a lot of abuse before sharpening is required (6 months+ of use on ropes, hard plastic and wood about 3x/day), but I'd suggest sharpening it regularly so you don't cut yourself if you slip on a cut with a dull blade.

5 out of 5 stars best pockect knife ever   July 17, 2008
Bought one for my personal use 5 years ago and have given close to 10 as gifts since then. I plan to always have one with me.

5 out of 5 stars my favorite knife ever   June 16, 2008
I carry a knife and for the last several years it has been this one. It's just lerge enough to be usefull and just small enough to carry unobtrusively. I always have two on hand in case I misplace one.

5 out of 5 stars Love the Kershaw   June 5, 2008

First off...I'm an american and want to buy american made products. Kershaw makes that easy for me. As for the knife, I like Kershaw's steel. It's stainless, it's durable, and it's easy to sharpen...and stays sharp. I like the size of the Onion, and it's little brother as well. Just a word of caution though, ALWAYS ensure to lock the blade DOWN when carrying the knife in your pocket. I thought I was the only one who had the knife open while in my pocket (I got a little cut on my finger when I stuck my hand into my pocket and the blade was partially open), but I was talking with a friend the other day who carries a 4 inch scar on his forearm by blindly brushing his arm against his thigh while the knife had partially opened in his pocket. Great knife, great size....great company.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent quality, very small   May 22, 2008
Very fast opening, small, durable and sharp.

The locking mechanism to prevent accidental opening doesn't feel sturdy..just a small screw.

In short this knife holds up to Kershaw standards in quality, design, and style.

Here's a quick warning to those with large hands: This knife is very, very small and requires you to hold it with your fingertips to open instead of a full-hand grip and open...hard to manage with bigger hands.
