Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
It's a cloudy morning, but the barometer on your Suunto Lumi says blue skies ahead, so leave your raincoat at home. The day counter reminds you that a special event is coming up - you still have time to make plans. The weather trend indicator and day counter are a few of Suunto Lumi's intuitive features that you can use to navigate through life.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful   November 19, 2008
I recently purchased this watch for myself and I love it. It is larger than most women's watches, even though I have a pretty small wrist, the watch fits nicely and looks great. The watch itself was pretty easy to set up by following the instructions, however, the wristband is another story. It took me at least an hour to adjust the band.

1 out of 5 stars Not a real outdoor watch   September 29, 2008

The altimeter is not accurate at all, even when correctly used. Further proof that this is not just a fluke, my climbing partner had a Suunto Vector and we went through the same calibration before the climb (at the mountain hut of a known altitude) and when we arrived at the summit, his altimeter was spot on, the Lumi I had was waaaaaaay off (btw, we both wore the watches on the wrist and so temperature does not factor in here). The Lumi scratches super easily too. Getting to the altimeter calibration function is a pain. The proverbial straw was when I went swimming in the sea, the watch died. Only one conclusion possible: such a cute watch, not at all built to the needs of climbing. This is not a real outdoor-type watch. BTW, this is the first Suunto I have tried that was made in China (vs. Finland for all the older models).

5 out of 5 stars I love my Lumi.   September 17, 2008
I read some negative reviews about the Lumi before I decided I wanted one anyway, so I wanted to post my experiences with it. I have had mine for several months, and wear it almost everyday, with no problems so far.
Form/Function: It IS a big women's watch, but I quickly got used to it, and don't feel that it overwhelms my 5'5" frame. It's about the size of a men's Suunto Vector without the plastic bezel, and is not quite as thick. The watch itself is well made and nice looking, and the display is easy to read and well thought out. I wouldn't go climbing rocks with it on, as the metal case and glass face would scratch, but it can handle some pretty hard knocks. When I got it, I read the manual once, and don't have much trouble remembering where things are, or how to change the settings. I use the barometer setting daily, and don't remember to reset it as often as I should, but it does show pressure trends accurately. When I took it to the mountains backpacking, I reset the elevation at the trailhead. The first afternoon, while climbing, the elevation couldn't settle and seemed to be a few hundred feet off. On the advice of other Suunto users, I took it off for the night. The next day, the elevation was spot on (verified by topo map) and continues to be accurate when I faithfully reset it. (Pressure changes will throw it off unless reset) It seems it needed to find its place in the world, or something. I love the sunrise/sunset and date countdown features, and the compass is helpful for the general direction. The alarms are even nice sounding.
The Negatives: I chose the Sportif, with the orange buckle band after reading others had trouble with the clasp-type bands. It is secure, and although the extra band doesn't stay in the keeper very well it works just fine. Be advised- it's not red...it's fluorescent orange. The orange band combined with the size of the watch makes it pretty obvious, but it's something I just forget about until someone asks me what it is. I do prefer the velcro type replacement bands, but they cannot be used with the Lumi's screw band attachments. Overall, I really like my Lumi and can live with the band. I give it 5 stars even with the funky orange color.

5 out of 5 stars Must Own   July 8, 2008

I was so excited to receive my Suunto Lumi watch! So far so good... Everything has been fairly accurate, including the storm alarm and compass. My small complaint is that even though I followed the directions carefully regarding how to adjust the watchband, it still resulted in a tight fit. I wish they had created a regular watchband that doesn't require snipping the plastic (just a regular adjustable would have been great). The band is pretty and seems durable. Maybe it's too much to ask but I wish they had included a heart monitor too. Another cool feature is the sunrise-sunset time. I don't have much trouble switching to the feature I'm looking for e.g. stop-watch. Doesn't feel overly heavy even with its big watchface. I like that it is a mirrored face- my husband was teasing me that I could look into it to put on lipstick- ladies, you actually can =). Anyway, I'm psyched to take it on a hike or trail.

2 out of 5 stars Interesting concept but would not recommend   May 15, 2008

I've had several Suunto watches and was unimpressed with the Lumi. First of all it's very heavy! And huge! The features are awesome but the sacrifice (size, weight) aren't worth the trade. I'm an averaged sized female (5'7" 145lbs) and the heft of the watch made my hand fall asleep after 5 minutes. I am accustomed to wearing men's watches that are too big for my wrist but this one was too much even for me. Also, I was expecting a red--(true red) watch band but when it arrived it was more like crash-test dummy orange!
